Kildare GAA club wants to build astro facilities with solar panels

A planning application was lodged on August 5
A €930,000 development has been proposed for Milltown GAA Club in Newbridge, with plans for a new all-weather training pitch, additional car parking and solar panels.
A planning application was lodged on August 5 for the development at the club’s grounds in Milltown, Newbridge.
The main element of the proposal is a 60m by 45m all-weather synthetic grass astro training pitch. The pitch would be enclosed by perimeter fencing and served by a footpath and LED sports floodlights, including lighting columns and light cowls.
The plans also include a new internal road layout within the club grounds, together with additional car parking spaces to facilitate the new training pitch.
A further element of the development would see 65 photovoltaic solar panels installed on the roof of the existing clubhouse.
The application covers a site extending to approximately 4.7 hectares and the project is classified as a sports and leisure development.
The plans have been prepared by Newbridge-based Nugent Planning & Design, with Hi-Volt Ireland Ltd acting as consultant.
The proposed development would provide Milltown GAA with a dedicated all-weather facility that could be used for training throughout the year, while the floodlighting would allow greater flexibility for evening sessions.
The solar panel installation would also introduce renewable energy generation at the clubhouse as part of the wider development.
The application, reference 2660893, is currently at the plans-applied stage.
