The planning application was submitted to Kildare County Council

Plans have been lodged for a €631,000 extension and redevelopment project at McMahon’s Gastrobar on Main Street in Maynooth, Co Kildare aimed at expanding the popular venue into part of the adjoining former Elite Bakery building.

The planning application, submitted to Kildare County Council by McMahon’s Gastrobar, proposes the merging and extension of part of the existing public bar into the neighbouring vacant bakery premises, creating a larger lounge and a new beer garden.

The development will also include a range of back-of-house facilities, including a new staircase linking to the existing basement, additional storage areas, customer toilets and a goods-in area that will also serve as an emergency exit.

As part of the proposal, part of the former Elite Bakery building will undergo a change of use to accommodate the expanded hospitality offering.

External works include alterations to the rear elevations of both McMahon’s Gastrobar and the former bakery building, with plans for a new façade facing Doctors Lane, alongside associated internal alterations and site development works.

The proposed commercial development has an estimated value of €631,000 and will extend across a floor area of approximately 207.5 square metres on a 0.079-hectare site.

The planning application was lodged on June 5 and is currently under consideration by Kildare County Council.

The project has been designed by Maynooth-based Doran Cray Architects and, if approved, will further enhance the hospitality offering in the heart of the north Kildare town.
