There was great excitement in the Westgrove Hotel and Conference Center on Saturday night as Grainne Carr from Ardclough was selected as the 2018 Kildare Rose.
2017 Kildare Rose Deirbhle Mulvihill passed on the honour of representing the Lilywhites in the Dome in August in front of a packed crowd of supporters and well wishers.
Grainne Carr was congratulated by all 18 fellow Kildare Rose Contestants when her name was called out by Maria Walsh who for a second year running did an amazing job as MC.
Grainne will benefit from generous sponsorship to help her get ready for her time in Tralee, including jewelry from Tipperary Crystal, Hair styling for the year from Gary Patrick Hair Design, Newbridge, a hamper from Clancy's Pharmacy, Clane and a 6 month gym membership from Westgrove Hotel, Clane. She was also presented with a bouquet of flowers by FlowerZ in Clane.
Although Grainne was selected on Saturday night, there was quite a build up to the selection night. Kildare Rose participants enjoyed a range of bonding and social activities, including Porsche driving in Mondello, chocolate tasting at Lily O'Briens, tour and lunch at The National Stud, beer sampling in McGargles Brewing, Punchestown Racing festival and getting lost in The Kildare Maze.
The night would not have been possible without our lead Sponsor The Westgrove Hotel and Conference Centre which has been the home of the Kildare Rose for the past four years.
Jerry Russell MD The Westgrove Hotel, Clane, said: "Well first and foremost may I congratulate Grainne Carr who I know will be a great ambassador for County Kildare and will represent the Lilywhites brilliantly down in Tralee.
"All the rest of the Kildare Roses were also superb and it was such a hard decision for the judges but thank you for all of you in getting involved and no doubt you had a great experience together as a group.
The Westgrove Hotel Leisure Club and Spa were delighted once again to host the Kildare Rose Competition and be part of this wonderful important part of our Irish Summer which is the Rose of Tralee Festival.
"We are also proud to share our chosen charity The Jack & Jill Foundation in raising vital funds to support home care for very sick babies enabling them to go home from hospital and be with their families.
"Lastly may I thank Elena & David Gibson and her team in County Kildare for all the voluntary hours of work and organisation that goes into putting this altogether year after year. You are just amazing. Thank you."
The event supported the Jack & Jill Children's Foundation with total of €970 raised from the raffle. This will provide over 60 hours of care for sick children and their families."
