As the largest town in County Kildare, Newbridge offers many facilities and activities to its diverse population of approximately 22,742 people. Here are just a few examples.
Recognised retailers such as Marks & Spencers, Eason, Boots, Debenhams and Zara, have all located in the Whitewater Shopping Centre, a popular destination for locals and citizens in neighbouring towns. Whitewater is a great place to socialise with friends and family, or simply do your weekly shop. Shoppers can also visit the Odeon Cinema in Whitewater to enjoy the latest films in one of its 6 screening rooms.
Newbridge is also home to other stores such as Primark and T.K Maxx which are well-known favourites of those who frequent the town.
Sports and recreation
Newbridge also hosts the Kildare Gaelic Athletic Associations county grounds, as well as Sarsfield GAA and Moorefield GAA, the towns two local clubs, which makes Newbridge more desirable to local sports fans.
The Newbridge Musical Society has been active in Newbridge since the 1980s and brings annual musical productions to the stage in Newbridge College. It has also been nominated for numerous awards by the Association of Irish Musical Societies
The Riverbank Art Centre is a venue that hosts local, national and international productions in theatre, music, opera, comedy and visual arts. It holds 180 seats in its auditorium and has a Children’s Gallery, the McKenna Gallery, a contemporary gallery and a café. Coming up in October is a production of the musical ‘Rent’ which will be performed with a live band over the course of 4 dates.
Newbridge is home to The Liffey Linear Park, a seven-acre park alongside the River Liffey. The park gives locals the opportunity to meet up with loved ones while enjoying the surrounding scenes of nature.
The town also offers a sports centre with both indoor and outdoor facilities, two swimming pools, three gyms, a playground for young children and a number of leisure centres, ensuring that any visitors of the town are never bored.
Restaurants and cafés
Good food is never in short supply while visiting Newbridge. Whether it’s a quaint café or a bustling restaurant, you can rest assured the meal will be satisfactory. One such place is the Café Continental which presents a welcoming atmosphere and delicious food.
Another example of exceptional cooking can be found in the popular 4 star Keadeen Hotel, which offers an impressive array of options, such as Saddlers Bar and Bistro, The Atrium Bar and Lounge and The Bay Leaf Restaurant, all of which create an immersive and enjoyable experience.
All in all, my hometown of Newbridge is a great place for shopping, entertainment, dining out and sport - Abby
