New look Kildare team named for Westmeath clash
By Patrick Ward 22:22 Friday 4th of January 2019

Cian O'Neill has made a number of changes to his Kildare side as the Lillywhites get set to take on Westmeath in the O'Byrne Cup at the Downs on Sunday afternoon.

There are eight changes in all from the Offaly clash before Christmas with David Malone getting his first start in a Senior Kildare jersey while the midfield pairing of Fionn Dowling and Paschal Connell appear from the beginning for the first time this season.

Its just reward for Malone who is in his first year with the squad and he impressed with fleeting appearances off the bench in the previous two outings.

The rest of the side has a more settled look with the full back and full forward lines having a familiar feel to it.

A win or a draw will see Kildare book their place in the last four after victories over Carlow and Offaly while Westmeath must go in search of victory.

Throw-in is at 2.00.P.M
