The Casual Comedy starring pupils from the Patrician Primary School in Newbridge hits the boards at the Riverbank Theatre on Tuesday the 31st May and Wednesday 1st of June at 8pm. Patrons are advised to arrive early as there will be a performance by the “Proclaimers” (Mr. Kirke’s 3rd class pupils) of the Proclamation of Independence in the Foyer at 7.45pm. This is a full length musical in two acts, written and directed by Francis T. Kirke, and performed by 5th and 6th class pupils of the Patrician Primary School. Focusing in on the “cultural” aspect of the 1916 Rising, the story is told by “Kathleen Ní Houlihan” and presented by W.B. Yeats. There are seven original songs and seven traditional numbers. Accompanied by a full stage band led by James Tooher, (the Musical Director) the children sing “Freedom Call” a number dedicated to the children of the Revolution through “There won’t be many coming home” by Roy Orbison to their finale “The Casual Comedy”. Of course Pádraig Pearse appears as does Michael Collins and DeValera. The story goes beyond 1916 and the changes that it initiated to hope and endeavour. Tickets available from Riverbank Theatre €7 adults €3 children.
