Naas toy shop had to close this morning due to flooding

Downpours in Naas yesterday evening caused flash floods in many areas and Smyths' Toystore had to temporarily close its doors this morning. Staff at the premises in The Globe Retail Park near the M7 were still mopping up excess water on its floors today. A sign on the front door informed customers that the store would be closed until the early afternoon. It's understood that rain may have leaked through the roof of the building. Other stores in the Retail Park such as Heatons and Harry Corry were open for business. Elsewhere, the SuperValu store in Naas town had to close due to flooding at 8pm yesterday evening but was open as normal this morning. A spokesman said: "The shop floor flooded and we closed the store as a precaution but everything was back to normal this morning." Experts said up to one-inch of rain fell in 20 minutes in the Naas and Newbridge areas yesterday evening. Last night both the Naas and Newbridge areas were badly hit by flash flooding, during a freak thunder and lightening storm.
