Closing road into Millennium Park for 26 hours will have 'major impact' - Chamber

The partial closure of a road into Millennium Park in Naas will have a 'major impact' on the business community, a lobby group warned. Kildare County Council said that one lane of the Millennium Link Road will be temporarily shut from 10pm until midnight tomorrow for "essential road works". Traffic from the Sallins Road Roundabout entering onto the Millennium Link Road will be diverted via Osberstown, Halverstown and Caragh Road for the duration of the 26-hour closure. But North Kildare Chamber director Allan Shine said: "The temporary closure will have a major impact on commercial activity, commuters as well as local residents." Hundreds of people are employed at Millennium Park in firms such as the Kerry Group, AIB, Lidl and Horse Sport Ireland. Kildare County Council apologised in advance for any inconvenience caused to motorists. Mr Shine said he acknowledged that road systems needed to be upgraded but works could be carried out at less busy times. He added: "I'm wondering why these works couldn't be carried out in August for example when business traffic would be lower and there would be no school traffic."
