Family devastated by death of young Athy man in accident

Mourners are gathering in Athy today following the death of a popular young player in an accident. All club activities are postponed at Castlemitchell GFC as a mark of respect to the life of Fionn Aedh McDonald. The popular young sportsman was soon due to turn 19 next month but on Thursday last, a knock to his head resulted on him suffering a fatal stroke caused by a blood clot. The son of Cristina NiDubhslaine and Declan McDonald was described by a family member as a 'bright, glowing sun.' Fionn is being described by Castlemitchell club members as a 'kind, gentle and caring person.' He moved to Castlemitchell a number of years ago and was an integral part of the club at both under-age and senior levels. Fionn is survived by parents Cristina NiDubhslaine and Declan McDonald, siblings Lily Mài, Lìr, Daisy, Cole and Rommeij, nieces and nephew, along with grandparents Joe and Sheila Delaney. His body will be reposed at his aunt Geraldine's home in 12 Bridgefield Manor, Ardreigh, Athy, from 4p.m. today. The funeral service will be held at St Michael's Parish Church, Athy at 11am on Saturday 10th October followed by burial at St.Michael's New Cemetery. As a mark of respect to family and friends the disco and Barn Dance scheduled for this Friday and Saturday are postponed until Friday 16th and Saturday 17th October. All tickets already purchased will be valid for these nights .
