A Co Kildare woman has won an award for RTE programme Nationwide. Monasterevin resident Mary Fanning scooped the broadcast journalist gong at the Travel Extra Travel Journalist of the Year awards on Friday night. The awards were presented in the Thomas Prior Hall, Clayton Hotel, Ballsbridge. This is the third time, Mary Fanning has won the award for Nationwide. The programme on Roscommon was produced and reported on by Mary Fanning, presented by Mary Kennedy and edited by Conan Doyle in RTE's Waterford Office. Cameramen were Stuart Halligan , Ciaran Maher and John McMorrow. The Nationwide segment looked at the tourism gems in County Roscommon with a wealth of mythological sites, a journey off the wild Atlantic way into a county that boasts African drumming centres, a windmill in Elphin and some of the most important celtic royal sites in Europe including the location of Queen Mavev’s palace and Oweynagat cave believed to the entrance to the other world. The Travel Extra journalists competition had 400 entries from across the entire media industry.
