LATEST: Large fire at Smyths toystore in Naas

Photos by Aishling Conway. Emergency services are at the scene of a large fire at Smyths Toystore in the Globe Retail Park in Naas. Staff and customers in the premises and nearby buildings have been evacuated as a precaution. image Several units of Kildare Fire Service are fighting the blaze which is located at the rear of the Toystore. Motorists have been urged to take extra care while driving in the area as their visibility may be affected. image Thick plumes of dark grey smoke are billowing from the scene of the incident near the N7/M7. Gardai are at the Retail Park sealing off the area and are directing traffic on local roads. image Commuter traffic travelling southbound is slow on approach leading to congestion. It's not the first emergency to hit the Toystore in recent months. In November, fire crews were called to the Smyths premises after an electrical fault. Two months earlier, sudden downpours caused flooding at the store and it was temporarily closed for the mopping up operation.
