It may only be August - but a lot of Christmas shopping was done this morning at Smyths Toystore in Naas. A 'fire sale' offering up to 40% discounts drew hundreds of shoppers who queued for more than 100 metres as this video taken at 8.50am by Naas resident Barry Leydon shows. The first customer began queuing at 1am - eight hours before the opening at 9am which saw buyers splashing out on trolley-loads of toys. Smyths' staff had organised the event very well by hiring extra security personnel - and Gardai were also on duty to help out with crowd management. A maximum number of people were allowed in at a time and when they left, the next group were admitted. It took Barry more than 20 seconds to drive the length of the line which was at Woodie's DIY store when this footage was filmed.
