No restaurant or bar coming to Naas Market House as planning permission expires

There will be no development of one of Naas' most historical buildings in the near future after the planning permission for any upgrades expired earlier this year. The Market House, which is located near the Grand Canal at the Harbour in Naas, originally had permission for a development that would see the historic building turned into a restaurant and bar. It had been granted in 2009 and an extension had been granted until April 2017, but it was never activated. Cllr Anne Breen raised the issue and asked what the current status of the building was at a meeting of the Naas Municipal District. The council responded by stating that the Market House, originally built in the early 1800s, was in the hands of a private owner and there are currently no plans for any developments there. "The Market House at the Grand Canal Basin in Naas is in private ownership," a report from the council stated. "A proposed redevelopment of the site as a restaurant and bar received full planning permission from the then Naas Town Council in 2009. An extension of duration of the planning permission was granted up to April 2017. This permission was not activated.
