Local granny wins €65K on Telly Bingo in Kildare shop

A Kildare pensioner today won a massive €65,000 on a Telly Bingo ticket. The woman was sold the ticket in L Malone's Newsagents in Kildare Town - a very lucky shop in the past. Owner Louis Hennessy told KildareNow: "The lady brought in the ticket to us and we verified the €65,000 prize on our terminal. "I then contacted the National Lottery to confirm the win."   Louis added: "The lady will travel up to the National Lottery on Monday to collect her cheque." It's believed that the lady lives a few miles outside the town but comes in every week to do her shopping. She has sons living in Kildare Town and has a number of grandchildren.   4th Telly Bingo win   It's the fourth big win for L Malone's shop in the Telly Bingo. And the shop is also lucky for scratch cards - in recent days it sold two €400 All Cash Spectacular prizes to different customers. It also sold a €25,000 prize card in the past.   Good amount to win    One local person told KildareNow: "The news is all over the town. People would know the lady to see her. "I heard whoever was in the shop at the time gave her big hugs and said 'well done' to her. "It's a good amount to win because it's not too big and it's not too small either. "She's at the age where she won't go mad. I'd say the grandchildren will be treated very well!"   Oldest in country    L Malone's is believed to be the oldest newsagent in the country and marked its 150th birthday in 2014. It's named after original owner Lily Malone - who was widely thought to be an extremely lucky woman. In 2012, the shop on Claregate Street sold a Lotto ticket €11.5m jackpot to a member of the Macari fast food business family.
