Kildare libraries may soon have self-serving machines

By Kim O'Leary Self-service equipment is likely to be installed in all of Kildare's libraries soon, as Kildare County Council is looking for a contractor to fit the new machinery in its libraries. Kildare County Council has tendered for a contractor to provide 19 "radio frequency ID" self-service machines in 14 libraries around the county. This means that library members may withdraw or return books without having them checked in or out by a librarian, making it easier and more convenient for members. The new self-service machines have been successfully received in Dublin libraries over the last two years, and it is hoped that Kildare library members will benefit from the new service.
