Millionaire Moment: This magnificent historical castle in Rathcoffey includes a farm and land extending to 224.5 acres for €3.75M

By Kim O'Leary For those potential buyers who have ever dreamed of owning their very own castle, a truly once-in- a-life-time offer to purchase a stunning castle in North Kildare as well as a farm and lands has entered the property market with an asking price of €3, 750,000.   "Rathcoffey Castle & Farm", Rathcoffey, Co Kildare, is presented to the market by Sherry Fitzgerald Country Homes, Farms and Estates and it includes Rathcoffey Castle and Manor House and an attractive farm of approx. 224.5 acres/90.8 hectares of highly productive agricultural lands some 8.5km from the popular university town of Maynooth in the heart of County Kildare. [caption id="attachment_250865" align="alignnone" width="360"] Rathcoffey Castle & Farm extends to approx. 224.5 acres/90.8 hectares of highly productive agricultural lands[/caption]   A rich history   While the castle is in need of a full restoration, it is brimming with local history, and in 1417 John Wogan was granted the Manor or Rathcoffey and although the property changed ownership many times, it was John Wogan's descendants that built the castle. The Wogans held ownership up until 1758 when Col. Nicholas Wogan passed away with no male heir so the property and its land was divided between his two daughters.   In 1754, Archibald Hamilton bought the Rathcoffey Estate from Richard Wogan Talbot a descendant of the original owners and he built a new mansion on the site of the castle incorporating the original Wogan castle into the structure, and it later came into the ownership of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) before it was sold to a local farmer in the 1970s.   Today Rathcoffey Castle and Mansion House is in need of full restoration, and while it would be an ideal project for an ambitious buyer, it also includes Rathcoffey Farm and the lands are of superb quality and mostly consists of large fields and ideal tillage lands, serviced by a road which runs through the centre.   The lands are also drained well with mature hedging surrounding most of the boundary, and there are 2 access points into the lands with the main access coming from the village side of the lands in Rathcoffey and there is further access from the far side of the farm with good road frontage.
