Family 'living in fear' with cars crashing into fence of garden where kids play

Residents in the Stickens area of Caragh are calling for urgent action to improve the safety of a nearby junction which causes cars to crash into their gardens. Householders claim there have been dozens of crashes into fences on the R409 route between Caragh and Mondello. Cllr Rob Power will raise the issue at the Naas Municipal District meeting next week where he will call for immediate traffic calming measures in the area to slow down vehicles. Local resident John Delaney said: "This relatively innocuous corner needs traffic calming measures installed very quickly as someone is going to be killed. "We now live in fear that a car hitting the fence will kill our daughter who likes to play in the back garden.
"We cannot stop her and her friends being children but some of her friends' parents also live in fear that a terrible accident is just around the corner.   "We came home one evening and one of the slats from our fence was in our sitting room.   "The impact of the car was that severe) the slat travelled 22 metres from the fence then into our home."     John added: "This is only a small snapshot of what is going on, there are 40+ families in Stickins and they cannot get out onto the road safely due to high speed traffic.   "The school bus collects the children (above circled in red) but cars will not slow down. "The speed limit is 60 coming from Caragh to Stickins, but there is an 80km sign just after the turn and when people see this they increase their speed and when we are trying to exit onto the road we are dicing with death."
