Naas restaurant closes yesterday after 6 years due to 'sporadic' trade

A popular Naas restaurant closed yesterday and will not re-open. A statement said:"While trade is often brisk, it can also be sporadic however, as a result it's not enough to keep us running. We were six years old last week and we've had some wonderful times and amazing customers, thank you all for your support over the years." Within the past month, Naas town has seen three businesses close, Veritas, Five Lamps pub and Jolly Cafe and Restaurant. Meanwhile a long established Naas politician is concerned that very few people running businesses in the town own the premises. Lack of financial supports from banks and high rates are some major issues, says Cllr Séamie Moore. Cllr Moore is optimistic that while businesses are closing in Naas, there are also plans for businesses to open while there are also new businesses currently opening. He is hopeful that the shopping centre in Naas will be open by 2020 and the old Superquinn site will open for business within three months. He said: "The support of a good bank is a problem for many businesses who are leasing, cashflow is vital, a lot of people who were running shops and owned the shops are now landlords in Naas. Naas is expensive for renting." Meanwhile, in August, the Candied Walnut restaurant in Naas closed. A statement said:"Despite our ongoing efforts, the business faced increasingly difficult trading conditions this year and coupled with weather events and increasing running costs and overheads, we have been left with no option but to close. We are utterly devastated and heartbroken for all our Candied Walnut staff who have been so supportive and understanding. We have enjoyed sharing our passion with all of you. We have immensely enjoyed getting to know all our loyal customers and earning your friendships. Sadly though the business was just not growing at a pace that was needed to survive. We had to protect ourselves and our young family from further debt." [caption id="attachment_260591" align="alignleft" width="300"] Jolly closes after 6 years[/caption]
