Outrage as caravan stuffed with rubbish abandoned outside Newbridge

This caravan filled full of household items and rubbish was dumped and abandoned by a roadside in the vicinity of Barrettstown / Mouds Bog outside Newbridge on Sunday night last.   Kildare County Council have been informed about the incident and the Council will have to safely remove the caravan and its contents and dispose of everything in an environmentally friendly way.         Fine Gael Area Representative Peggy O'Dwyer said: "This is totally unacceptable due to the health and safety risk to the general public and the natural environment.   “As a local resident and Fine Gael Area Representative, I accept that this behaviour is very difficult to combat. "In this regard a number of solutions should be considered. "This could include significant increase in fines for people found to be guilty of this practice, surveillance, signage, and an awareness campaign on the disposal of waste”. "Our environment is our future." Peggy said fly tipping of illegal waste has been a problem in the Barrettstown area especially in and near the protected area of Mouds Bog. The residents in the area are very aware and vigilant to this problem which occurs mainly during the hours of darkness.
