Kill take points on the round in latest round of KWWIBA

Kill CBC And Clane/Staplestown Serve Up Thrilling Fare In Ned Byrne League

Kill CBC had home advantage against Clane/Staplestown in this Rd.9 Ned Byrne league match on Friday 10th Feb. With the home side second from the bottom and their opponents lying third from the bottom of the table both sides would be very anxious to try and take all five points from this encounter and push their team to a more favourable position.

Mighty Effort

Mat 1: Although the visitors were the first to score it was the home side that looked the more settled in the early exchanges, and by the fourth end were leading by three scores to their opponents one. On the fifth Clane/Staplestown had levelled up the game at three scores each. The game at this early stage was turning into a real classic as both teams were playing extremely good bowls. Within a couple of ends the visitors had opened up a gap of four but the home team narrow this to three on the next end. Again Clane/Staplestown stretched their lead but this time they extended the margin to five. The home side came fighting back to narrow the gap to two scores, but once again the visitors put four between the sides and seemed to be in a commanding position with only three ends to play. The hosts were far from finished as a mighty effort on those last three ends yielded them eleven scores to run out winners on a scoreline of 19/12. Best for Kill CBC were Alan Farrell and man of the match Charlie Dunney who gave an outstanding performance, being out of action for some considerable time due to illness made this all the more remarkable. Best for Clane/Staplestown were John Kearney and Dudley Foster. Kill CBC team: Charley Dunney, Ameni Nash, Alan Farrell and Pat Keenan. Clane/Staplestown: Myrtle Stewart, John Kearney, Pat Flynn and Dudley Foster.   Great Performances Mat 2: Another great contest on this mat. The home team started off very well with scores on the first three ends, with a one, one and two to give them a lead of four to nil. The next couple of ends belonged to their opponents who scored a one and a three to level matters, and continued with a one and a two to take the lead. Back came Kill CBC to move ahead on a score of 9/7. Clane/Staplestown again came back to level the game for the second time and on the eleventh end were back in the lead by the minimum. As on the previous mat it was the home side that finished stronger to outscore their opponents by seven to one on the last four ends. Finishing score: Kill CBC 16 Clane/Staplestown 11. Best for Kill CBC were Martin Whelan and Patsy Conlon, while best for Clane/Staplestown were Rosemary Kearney and Peter Schmelter. Kill CBC: Martin Whelan, Tim O’Donnell, Patsy Conlon and Peggy Hayes. Clane/Staplestown: Rosemarie Kearney, Catherine Moran, Peter Schmelter and Gay Blake. Even though Kill CBC take all five points it doesn’t change their position in the table as their opponents still remain one point above them. With the great performances shown by both teams in this match on both mats it is difficult to understand their lowly placing at present in this competition.     Recent League Results (home team first) Div.1: Prosperous 3 Allen 2, Ardclough 5 Brownstown 0, Hollywood 5 Baltinglass 0, Kill CBC 5 Kildangan 0, Kildare 3 Caragh 2.
