Appeals for Maynooth Garda Station to open 24 hours all week long following savage assault on female student

Three female suspects are being investigated in relation to a savage attack on a young student at Maynooth University with urgent appeals for the Garda station to be open seven days a week.
18-year-old Arts student, Kym Owens, remains in a serious condition at Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown after being viciously assaulted last month.
The student, who had just started university in September, was attacked at the entrance to the Moyglare Abbey Estate after travelling from her home town near Castleblayney in Co Monaghan on a private bus on Sunday, November 20. She was set upon while walking to her digs at the Moyglare Abbey Estate.
Currently the Garda Station in Maynooth town is only open for two hours per week, five days a week. It is anticipated that some of the 10 additional Gardaí in Co Kildare deployed from Templemore this month, will eventually be stationed at Maynooth. Over 200 people were questioned by Gardaí in the days following the vicious attack.
As part of their inquiries Gardai have also interviewed 52 people who travelled on the same bus as Kym from her hometown in Castleblayney, Co Monaghan.
Fine Gael Cllr Tim Durkan said: "This attack was out of the blue. I have lived in Maynooth all of my life and never remember such a savage attack. The community is quite raw, it is extremely worrying."
Cllr Durkan is hoping that the station will be open 24 hours, seven days a week.
