Second season of popular Netflix show Wednesday begins filming in Ireland

The second season of Wednesday has entered production in Ireland, Netflix has confirmed.

The Emmy-winning show follows Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) as she adjusts to life among her supernatural peers at Nevermore Academy.

Season 2 will reportedly feature new cast members, including Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Joanna Lumley, and Thandiwe Newton, as well as returning favourites such as Catherine Zeta Jones (Morticia Addams) and Luis Guzmán (Gomez Addams).

Haley Joel Osment will also reportedly appear in a guest star role.

Wednesday co-showrunners Miles Millar and Al Gough told Tudum: "Our goal this season was to discover some fresh faces as well as invite some acting legends we’ve always admired to join Jenna and the gang at Nevermore.

"When we survey the talent we’ve assembled we could not be more thrilled. Mission accomplished.”

The first season of the fantastical teen comedy - directed by quirky horror king Tim Burton - quickly rocketed to the top of Netflix's Most Watched list, with over 250 million views.

The production of the popular show has moved from Romania to Ireland due to logistical issues, with most of the filming reportedly due to take place at Ardmore and Ashford Studio in Co Wicklow.

It's believed the move will lead to a tourism boost for Ireland, after a Romanian castle became popular with fans after being featured on the show.

Nestled in the mountain town of Busteni, Cantacuzino Castle became famous as the facade of Nevermore Academy.
