Surprise proposals, broken bones and 20,000 'lunatics' - 2 Johnnies recall Pints In A Field 2

Johnny B confessed to a near-disastrous fall off the stage while performing

Pints In A Field 2 took place in St Anne's Park on June 8, and according to Johnny B and Johnny Smacks themselves, "20,000" lunatics arrived to Dublin for a memorable day.

Kicking off their latest podcast which was released on Monday, the Johnnies described the post-festival fatigue. Johnny B laughed: "We are recording this just days after Pints in a Field, two men men held together by sellotape here." Their producer Maura said: "I was putting makeup on and I was like what even is the point."

The Johnnies went on to describe their standout moments from the day. One included the surprise appearance by Mark McCabe, which sent the crowd wild. Johnny Smacks shared a message from a fan: "Joanne said when Mark McCabe came out, I nearly pissed myself with excitement." Johnny B remarked: "That was a good one, people didn't see Mark McCabe coming."

One moment which Johnny Smacks recalled was the marriage proposal on stage. Johnny Smacks described the scene: "She was standing at the side of the stage thinking she just won this competition, and suddenly she was being pushed out onto stage. She was crying but happy, it was a complete surprise to her."

The proposal wasn’t the only spot of romance on the day, as another listener wrote to the show saying how the "up for a shift" lanyard he bought helped end his "nine-month dry spell": "By the time Love Story was played, his nine-month dry spell of shifting following a tough breakup was broken," Johnny B laughed.

Like any festival, this one was not without its mishaps. Peter from Scotland recalled breaking his nose to the two podcasters after trying to carry his girlfriend on his back. "My nose was fairly disfigured with blood pouring out," Peter wrote. The Johnnies showed a picture to viewers of the podcast and Johnny B said: "Now Peter, I'm not sure what your nose used to look like, But that definitely looks a bit off to the side, a bit sideways, doesn't it?"

On top of that, Johnny B confessed to a near-disastrous fall off the stage while performing, which he narrowly avoided. Recording for a music video, he said: "I'm bouncing and then I bounce off the edge of the stage," he said. The videographer " had a heart attack, like he thought I was gone," he laughed.

Aside from the odd broken nose, the lads shared the heartwarming moments too. Gavin from Scotland, who attended alone after breaking up with his girlfriend found fellow podcast lovers through a community group and tagged along. Sharing the story with the two Tipperary men, he said: "Pints were drank, laughs were had, friendships and memories were made."

From dancing in line with Laura Nolan’s line dancing tutorial to spotting the infamous "beer snake" made from collected plastic glasses, the festival was a hive of activities.

Even the mishaps were part of the charm. Johnny B confessed to a near-disastrous fall off the stage while performing, which he narrowly avoided thanks to quick reflexes. "I'm bouncing and then bounce off the edge of the stage," he said, adding that the videographer had a heart attack thinking he was gone.

Teasing Pints In A Field 3, Johnny B laughed: "I wonder if those two who got engaged are going to have their wedding reception."
