Athy celebrates Irish heritage this weekend

To mark Seachtain na Gaeilge and the carnival atmosphere for St Patrick’s weekend, Athy Castle and the Heritage Centre is now turned green. Bunting decorates the buildings.

On Saturday Colm Walsh will head an event marking tributes to the late Mícheál Ó Dubhshláine who was a cumadoóir amhrán, storyteller, múinteoir , author and gentleman. Athy will honor him at the unveiling of his “Made of Athy” plaque at O’Briens, Emily Square on March 16, all are welcome to celebrate Mícheál Ó Dubhshláine’s legacy.

At 4.30pm on Saturday, March 16, from 4.30pm at O’Brien’s Bar, there will be food and craic. Live music will be throughout the town over the entire weekend.
