Big demand for foreign language translators for defendants in Naas court

Business is booming for translators in Naas District Court as they are required regularly to prosecute foreign defendants.
An application was made today for an interpreter who speaks Cantonese for a female Chinese national appearing before the court.
Other translators are regularly used for defendants who speak Polish, Romanian, Lithuanian, Moldovan, and Russian.
Each translator whose services are required by a court can claim agreed fees and expenses from the state.
Many cases relate to road traffic offences detected along the N7/M7 motorway which is under the jurisdiction of the Kildare Garda Division.
