A brand new Credit Union is due to open today in Newbridge, as the temporary branch which was operational for credit union customers for several months has been replaced by the new branch on Edward Street in Newbridge town which opened at 9.30am this morning.

The credit union is also offering a great range of services to customers, including the opportunity to open one account with them without bank charges for the account , and new customers can take out loans for as much as €75,000. Those hoping to apply for membership can do so for free and they must be working or living in the areas of Naas, Newbridge, Maynooth or surrounding areas.
The new credit union will be located at the former pub McCabe’s premises on Edward Street as Naas Credit Union purchased the former pub last year for €562,938 and submitted plans for a conversion to Kildare County Council.
Naas Credit Union also has other branches in Maynooth, Monread, and Naas. A Credit Union branch was initially set up in the town a number of years ago but it went into liquidation in 2013, and it was then taken over by Permanent TSB in a €53.9million deal after a proposed merger with Naas Credit Union did not go ahead.
The Credit Union will be officially launched with a ribbon cutting ceremony to take place this Saturday as local author Michael Gannon is set to cut the ribbon and the fantastic Patrician Pipe Band will provide music at the ceremony and all are invited to attend on the day.
The opening of Newbridge Credit Union has been welcomed by local councillors and TDs. Posting on her Facebook page this morning, Kildare South TD Fiona O'Loughlin welcomed the news, saying: "It's a great location in the middle of the town accessible for all."
