Councillor Thomas Redmond has requested that a quantity of social houses to be set aside for "Kildare people who have lived in England or the USA or  further afield for many years and who now wish to return home."

Cllr Redmond said that these people are now in  council or trust accommodation abroad.

The issue will be raised at the Athy Municipal District meeting this month.

The politician will also call for engagement between the Council and with business people in the municipal district over challenges posed by Brexit.

He will also demand measures to prevent the "out-of-control postering" that happens at every election.

He wants Kildare County Council to identify a  number of agreed sites with councillors where posters could be displayed in the next  local elections.
