There are calls for Kildare County Council to work with ESB networks to install additional e-car charging points in public car parks in Co Kildare.
Independent Cllr Joanne Pender is calling on Kildare County Council to 'consider liasing with ESB networks with a view to installing an e-car charging space in public car parks' around the Kildare/Newbridge Municipal District.
It is understood that there are currently a total of 28 points and 14 stands in the area.
The Government announced recently that the purchase of new petrol and diesel cars is to be banned by 2030 and Government legislation to encourage people to move away from vehicles powered by fossil fuel is being prepared.
In other countries like the Netherlands, many cars are charged at home and only need occasional topping up after long journeys. However in Ireland but not every home has a driveway or other suitable spot to install a home charging point so another option is to install electric charge points in car parks.
Cllr Pender's motion will be discussed at the monthly meeting of the Kildare/Newbridge Municipal District tomorrow Wednesday, 17 October.
