CCTV footage shows brazen thief in Kildare car park plunder contents of work van

A worker in Monasterevin has been left gutted after a pair of brazen thieves broke into his van in broad daylight and spent a couple of minutes unloading the contents of the vehicle before taking off again.

The incident happened in a busy car park yesterday morning at 11.35am as the van, belonging to Portarlington man Shane Broderick, was broken into and pilfered despite the presence of shoppers in the busy car park in Monasterevin.

The CCTV footage from the nearby shop shows that one man - a passenger in the silver Toyota Corolla car - got out and managed to break in through the driver door of the van. He calmly began to unload the contents from the van into the boot of the car, before going around to open the passenger door of the van and then the boot.

The man then got back into the car and a getaway driver took off.

Shane launched an appeal on facebook for people to be wary of their property, and also uploaded a video that has been shared almost 450 times by Thursday morning.

"Guys van after getting cleaned out at 11:34am today," he said.

"Absolutely gutted to say the least.working long hours to keep things going and lads going around doing this.if there was no one to buy these tools there would be no need for them to be robbed.please be aware and keep an eye on your property."
