June Fest 2017 opened the doors of Newbridge Town Hall on Thursday 1st June and welcomed a large crowd to witness the first event of the popular three-week festival. Musical ensemble “Milis” kicked their heels and were dancing “Cheek-to-Cheek” before local singer-songwriter Philip McDermott performed a set of his own compositions.

The hall fell silent when Gerry Iwu from Kildare Youth Theatre recited a well-known passage from Romeo & Juliet. South Kildare Photography Club also opened their exhibition entitled Out & About in Our Community – a wonderful collection of photos taken in Newbridge over 2 weekends by the 40+ members of the club. June Fest Chairman Noel Heavey paid tribute to all the volunteers that help to make the festival such a success.

He also gave thanks to The local Credit Union who are proud sponsors of the festival this year. He wished them well with the new office in Newbridge which is due to open later this year. Local legend Christy Moore stepped onto the stage and recalled the last time he sang in the Town Hall almost 50 years ago. Not before long, Christy picked up his guitar and sang a few tunes to a delighted crowd. For more detail about the 60 events taking place in Newbridge this month see www.junefest.ie

“June Fest would not have been possible this year without the incredible support and help from the Credit Union," remarked Noel Heavey of June Fest.
