Cllr Nuala Killeen (SD) tabled a motion at a recent Celbridge Leixlip Municipal District meeting
A Social Democrats councillor for Leixlip has called on the council to provide clarification on the range of Cost Rental Schemes (housing) available in Leixlip and Celbridge, Co Kildare.
Cllr Nuala Killeen, who tabled her motion at a recent meeting of Celbridge Leixlip Municipal District, stated that this should include the number of units available and the rents paid per unit size, and asked that the council report on all cost rentals occupied within the last five years and active in the MD.
A report issued by the council stated that Cost Rental housing offers “affordable long-term, secure rented accommodation.”
The council explained that the rent charged is based on the cost of the particular building, as well as managing and maintaining the homes.
The rent charge for Cost Rental homes is at least 25% below regular market rents in the area, the report added.

The report stated that 56 Cost Rental units have been delivered by the Land Development Agency in the Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District.
At present, “there is no Cost Rental advertised in this municipal district”, the report further stated.
New schemes that become available are to be advertised by the Approved Housing Body, Land Development Agency or the Local Authority, the report concluded.
