Co Kildare students named finalists for Junk Kouture 2019 taking place in May

Fashion-forward secondary school students from Co Kildare have qualified for the grand finale of the Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture 2019 competition taking place in Dublin on May 3, 2019.

Now in its 9th year, Ireland’s leading fashion and art competition for secondary schools challenges students to create unique, original and innovative outfits from recycled materials and junk.

The Kildare projects which have qualified are Mielikki from Leixlip Community College which comprises of students Laura McGonigle, Florence Sonowo and Alana Hyland under the guidance of their teacher Ms Catherine McConnon, while Lunar Lady from Scoil Mhuire Community School Naas comprises of students Hannah Kiernan and Clodagh Nathan and they were helped along by their teacher Ms Sinead Cullen.

Mielikki was created by students Laura McGonigle, Florence Sonowo and Alana Hyland from Leixlip Community College

Lunar Lady was created by students Hannah Kiernan and Clodagh Nathan from Scoil Mhuire Community School Naas

These teams successfully competed in the eastern regional final at the start of the month, with only fifteen designs making it through to the Grand Final which will take place in the Helix in Dublin on May 2, 2019.

Each team now hopes to walk away with the top prize of €2,500 for their school, iPad Minis and €500 cash for the team.
