A Co Kildare TD is appealing for the the electrification of the Maynooth rail line along with Kildare to Hazehatch.

Local Fianna Fail TD, Frank O’Rourke, has said that the Department of Transport has been allocated €680 million to be spent on the improvement of the rail networks in Ireland between now and 2021.

Deputy O'Rourke said: “Given the increase in population, we need to ensure that we are future proofing out public transport infrastructure. Since getting elected, I have relentlessly fought for increased public transport services.”

He said:“Kilcock and Naas rail commuters are benefiting from lower fare structures, since both stations are now included in the short hop zones.”

He is calling for additional bus services for the 120 route serving Clane and Prosperous.

He said:“The Budget does bring the electrification of the Maynooth rail line closer to a reality. As I mentioned earlier this year, the electrification of the Kildare Line  to Hazelhatch is also on the agenda and was captured in the multiannual allocations to the Department of Transport.”
