Confusion reigns regarding gay couple who were asked to leave restaurant for holding hands

The authenticity of a letter sent into the Gay Community Magazine earlier this week is causing some confusion after the couple have failed to come forward and are seemingly unidentifiable at the moment.

A letter was sent to the magazine which stated that the couple were enjoying a meal in a restaurant in Dublin city centre when they were asked by a waiter  to stop holding hands as it was making another couple feel uncomfortable. The couple asked to see the manager, who said it was unfortunate but that it may be best to leave and they wouldn't be charged for their meal.

The furious couple were advised by the magazine that they would be able to bring the case to the Equality Authority but they have received no reply since. Another restaurant in Dublin offered to treat the couple to a free gourmet meal, but they have not been contacted by the couple either.

Theatre writer Philip Mc Mahon, who co-wrote the film Queen of Ireland, took to Twitter to say: It's kind of dangerous too, because it creates a Chinese whisper effect that erupts into outrage-without any of the hard facts.
