Council asked to upgrade busy 'rat run' in Kildare Town
15:02 Tuesday 13th of March 2018

Councillor Joanne Pender has called on Kildare Co Council to consider an overhaul of a short-cut route in Kildare Town.

The politician said that the minor local road (L7022) from the Melitta Road leaving Kildare Town cuts across the Plains to the R445 Dublin Road.

Cllr Pender said the road is a regular short-cut for motorists trying to avoid town centre traffic.

She explained: "Due to the heavy traffic in the town and lack of a traffic management plan, this road is increasingly
being used to avoid congestion during peak times but is in very poor condition for the volume of traffic that uses it."

The issue will be raise at the next local municipal meeting.
