Council crews, Fire Service, Civil Defence on standby for Storm Callum

Kildare County Council's Severe Weather Assessment Team met at 2pm this afternoon to discuss the current Status Yellow level weather warning in Kildare for Storm Callum.

The Council said its response teams including roads, water, fire, civil defence are on standby to deal with the impact of high winds from 12 midnight to 9am and putting in place the clean-up operation following the Storm.

Yellow Warnings can average Wind Speeds between 50 and 65 km/h and Gusts between 90 and 110 km/h.

Common potential hazards include power cuts due to fallen electricity lines or blocked roads due to fallen trees.

The Peter McVerry Trust, on behalf of Kildare County Council will be putting the Cold Weather Initiative for the county into operation to provide shelter for people sleeping rough during the severe weather conditions and the Freephone Number for this service is 1800 804 307.
