A learner driver in Kildare had their car seized after displaying N plates instead of the required L plates to avoid attention.

A learner driver in Kildare was caught with N plates instead of L plates in an attempt to avoid attention.

An Garda Síochána Kildare’s Facebook page posted about the incident on Tuesday, August 25, and spelled out the severe consequences.

The driver received €280 in Fixed Charge Penalty Notices, 2 penalty points and had their vehicle seized.

An Garda Síochána Kildare stated: “Trying to disguise your learner status will not make you invisible to Gardaí.

“If you are an unaccompanied learner driver, you are breaking the law. There are no shortcuts, no hiding places and no excuses.”

Some locals reacted differently to the punishment with one person saying, “driver knew enough to buy N plates not L plates, well spotted by the Garda.”

A second disagreed and said: “Oh for God's sake, lot of students trying to go to college, mammy can’t get up everyday to go with them, give them a break, they have a licence even if its L.”

However, someone strongly replied: “You’re joking? If you haven’t passed a test you don’t have enough experience to be driving unaccompanied. There are too many cars on the road now to take chances.”
