Kildare man remembered as a 'classy and skilful footballer', and a 'gentleman'

The Kildare community is mourning the passing of 'skilful footballer' and 'gentleman', Thomas (Cub) Walsh, Leixlip Park, Kildare / Straffan, Kildare, who passed on April 18 2025.

Thomas passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. The beloved brother of the late Bernadette, Marie and Joey, he is deeply regretted by his loving wife Patricia, daughters Linda and Tanya, sons-in-law, Dermot and Colm, adored grandchildren Sean, David, Emma, Thomas, Finn, Jack and Dara, sister Ann, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Rest In Peace.

Tributes paid to Thomas on RIP.ie this week included: “I am saddened to learn of the death of Toss. Condolences to his wife, Patricia, daughters, Linda and Tanya, and his extended family. He was a classy and skilful footballer and always a gentleman on and off the field. Suaimhneas síoraí da anam dílis.”

And: “Sincere sympathy to Trish ,Linda and Tanya on your sad loss.Toss was a great man. Always loved to stop for a chat especially on Monday mornings. He will be missed in Leixlip. May his soul rest in peace.”

While another mourner wrote: “Deepest sympathy to Tom’s Family on his sad passing. Fond memories of Toss playing for Leixlip in the 70s. He was a great footballer and a star on Kildare u-21 team in 1965 and later on the Senior team. May he rest in peace.”

And another added: “Deepest condolences to Patricia, Linda and Tanya on the passing of Tosh…..a gent & great neighbor. Always had time for chat about Kildare football, the horses or any sport for that matter. May he Rest in Peace.”

Reposing at Oliver Reilly's Funeral Home, Leinster St., Maynooth, (W23V99E) on Tuesday from 4pm concluding with evening prayers at 7pm.

Removal from his residence on Wednesday at approx. 11:30am to arrive at the Church of Our Lady's Nativity, Leixlip for 12pm Funeral Mass, followed by burial in Confey Cemetery.
