RIP: Tributes paid to a 'great character' from Kildare who passed recently

The late Edward (Ned) Whelan

Tributes have been paid to a Moone, Kildare man who has been remembered as a “great character” and “a true gentleman.”

Edward (Ned) Whelan, Bolton Hill, Moone, Co Kildare passed on Sunday, February 1 2026.

Ned is predeceased by his wife Ede, parents Tom and Jane,brother Brendan, sisters Sally and Esther.

He is deeply regretted by his sons Michael and David and grandchildren, sisters Betty and Sr Mary SMG., brother Pat, brothers-in-law Kevin and Seamus, nieces, nephews, relatives, Becky and a large circle of friends.

MAY NED REST IN PEACE.

Reposing in Dunne's Funeral Home Mill Road, Castledermot (eircode R14X317) on Friday from 4pm concluding with Rosary at 8pm.

The removal takes place from his home on Saturday Morning at 11:30am to The Church Of The Most Holy Trinity Moone arriving for Requiem Mass at 12noon Followed by Burial in the adjoining Cemetery.

Tributes paid to Ned on RIP.ie include: “Sincere sympathy to Ned's family on his sad passing. Ned was a great character, always had time for a laugh and a chat. May he rest in peace.”

And: “Our deepest sympathies to the Whelan Family at this sad time. May Ned Rest in Peace.”

While another mourner wrote: “Deepest sympathy to Ned’s family at this very sad time. May Ned rest in peace.”

And another added: “Deepest sympathy to Ned's family, Ned was a true gentleman, he loved to have a laugh and was a gas character. May he rest peace.”
