This motorist had a very lucky escape when their vehicle crashed into a ditch in Naas and members of the Naas Roads Policing Unit were on hand to help them out of the ditch-and the driver was found to be 4 times over the legal alcohol limit.

The motorist, who was driving a white van is believed to have lost control of the vehicle which then left the road and ended up in a ditch with the motorist unable to get the van out of the ditch without assistance.

A unit from the Naas Roads Policing section were called out to the scene yesterday, and they reported that there were no injuries sustained by the driver in the accident, with the Naas Roads Policing section saying that the driver was 'lucky not to be injured or hurt anybody'.

The motorist was arrested at the scene for drink driving and they will next face a day in court.

Kildare drivers are being reminded that there are several checkpoints in place around the county and the penalty for drink driving could include a maximum fine of €5,000 or 6 months in prison or both.
