Fine Gael select 3 candidates to contest Clane local area election in 2019
15:04 Friday 14th of December 2018

Fine Gael have announced that they will be putting three of their members forward to contest the next local election in the Clane Local Electoral Area in May 2019.

Looking to hold onto his seat in the council, Cllr Brendan Weld will be joined by the secretary of Allenwood Tidy Towns, Brendan Wyse, and former councillor, Seamus Lanagan, from Carbury.

The team was selected at a Fine Gael convention in the Westgrove Hotel on Thursday night, December 13, and it consists of candidates with a good geographical spread.

The convention was chaired by John Delamere from the Longford / Westmeath constituenc who is a member of the Fine Gael National Executive.

Speaking after his selection, Brendan Wyse, who represents the West Kildare Branch of Fine Gael, thanked the party membership for their support. “As a new candidate, I made a point of introducing myself in person to the party membership in the Clane LEA. From Cadamstown to Clane, I’ve met many Fine Gael people over the last few weeks and I received a really great response from each and every one of them. I explained to the members the community work I have been doing in the Allenwood area and how I am preparing to extend that work to the entire local electoral area, from Lullymore to Clogherinkoe.”

Mr. Wyse speaks highly of his running mates, “Cllr. Weld is well known in North Kildare and between himself and Seamus they have decades of experience working in Kildare County Council. I hope to draw on that experience, and add something new to the mix, to help continue the kind of work I have been doing in the community at a broader level”.

Mr. Wyse is currently driving a project to have a playground built in Allenwood and just recently began seeking feedback from local communities on the proposed Grand Canal Greenway. He has been involved with his local soccer and GAA clubs for many years, both on the field as a youth team coach, and behind the scenes working on development projects.
