12:15 Tuesday 12th of December 2017

Several Garda units responded to an incident at the Bank of Ireland branch in Newbridge earlier this morning.

Passers-by reported seeing several Garda vehicles at the scene and a Garda helicopter was spotted hovering overhead.

There were traffic delays on the Main Street for a time as the incident continued.

Local Gardai later confirmed that an alarm in the bank was activated which triggered standard response procedures for such an incident.
