Gardaí earlier today discovered a group of foreigner nationals housed in the back of a container on a truck in Stradbally, Co Laois.

The discovery was made after the truck driver alerted Gardaí when he heard knocking coming from the container on the back of the truck and Gardaí arrived to the scene to find three people inside.

Upon opening the container outside a graveyard in the town, Gardaí found three men aged in their 30s, two women also aged in their 30s and one child. The individuals are believed to have traveled from France and were housed in the container for a number of days.

They have claimed to be Kurdish nationals.

A number of units from the National Ambulance Service were dispatched to the scene and some of the individuals were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

The individuals will be interviewed by Gardaí from Rosslare Port at a later stage.
