Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the murder of Clive Staunton (pictured) in Leixlip last night.
Mr Staunton was gunned down the estate where he lives at around 9.15pm last night when a gunman shot him numerous times in the Glen Easton Estate.
Mr Stauton was a widower, whose son was in the house at the time of the shooting.
He was working as a street trader selling merchandise at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin last night for the football friendly between Ireland and Northern Ireland.
RTE reported that Mr Staunton had some minor convictions for offences such as counterfeiting, but he was not involved in criminality.
Gardaí are looking for any witnesses to the incident, and in particular are appealing for information on the movement of a silver/grey Volvo S40 (old style square back) between Leixlip and Manor Kilbride, Co Wicklow, last night.
Mr Staunton's body has been removed to the City Morgue where a post mortem examination will take place this afternoon and a Garda Technical exam is taking place at the scene.
Gardaí are asking anyone who saw Clive Staunton or his van a white Mercedes sprinter 96D22788 which has a distinctive red stripe on both sides between Bath Avenue, Dublin 4 and Leixlip between 8pm and 9.15pm last night to contact them.
