Power tools and caravans are just some of the seizures by Gardaí in south Kilkenny today.

Following several burglaries this month in the south Kilkenny area, Gardaí in Thomastown, joined forces with detectives in Operation Thor.

Premises were searched today.

During the course of the search a substantial amount of property was recovered including two caravans, a 4 X 4 vehicle, a trailer, quad bikes and a large variety of power tools.

No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.

Gardaí are advising people to  be 'vigilant' as traditionally burglaries rise in winter time.

Statistics reveal that over 45% of residential burglaries in winter occur between 5pm and 11pm.
In 19% of burglaries, entry is through an unsecured door or window.
Jewellery and cash are the most common objects stolen during burglaries.
The typical value stolen per incident in the last twelve months is €600.
*  There were over 160 cases where car keys were “fished” through the letterbox in the past year.
* More incidents reported by an alarm activation were detected than not detected.
