Today is a monumental day for many young women as they compete to be crowned Miss Ireland 2017, and representing Co Kildare is the lovely Rachel Williamson from Newbridge.
Rachel, 18, a past pupil of The Holy Family Secondary School in Newbridge qualified for the final of Miss Ireland via the Miss Carlow competition last month.
The daughter of Dublin natives Catherine and Joe and brother to Andrew, Rachel will attend the final at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dublin which starts at 5:30pm this evening.
However, competition will be fierce with 26 other young ladies from right across Ireland vying to claim the title of Miss Ireland 2017. Miss Ireland is one of the World’s longest running beauty pageants established in 1947, and it has been the launch pad for many well-known successful, empowering women in Ireland.
The winner of Miss Ireland represents her Country at the prestigious Miss World and in 2003 Rosanna Davison would later go on to win the title of Miss World.
Best of luck to Rachel this evening!
