Thieves have targeted the same 81-year-old farmer in Hollywood twice in the last nine months in a bid to steal an expensive trailer on the man's farm.
Last Saturday night a silver Ivor Williams livestock trailer, which had recently been renovated by Michael Kelly, was stolen from the farmer's yard on Saturday February 3 at some point between 8.30 and 9pm.
The man's son, Tom, returned to the yard to find the gate wide open and with the lock removed, while the trailer had been taken from the middle of the yard.
It was the second time since last May that thieves had tried to steal the trailer, according to the Wicklow People newspaper.
"He is extremely upset and doesn't know what to do with himself. He was in bed when it happened and it was a big shock for him," said Tom.
"Only last year he spent the guts of €2,000 doing the trailer up. It would cost €7,400 or so to buy a new one. My dad is 81-years-of-age and doesn't need this sort of hassle. He is willing to provide a reward of €2,000 for anyone who can lead him to the trailer," he said.
A white van with mud covering the number plates was seen acting suspiciously in the area on the previous Thursday night.
Gardaí are currently investigating the theft.
