The "big ball", Naas
The well known "big ball" monument at the M7 entrance route to Naas could become a tourist attraction, bringing visitors to the area.
It is the distinctive feature of the M7 Naas bypass.
The 'perpetual motion’ art feature (to give it its official title) was designed by artists Rachael Joynt and Remco de Fouw.
The spherical structure is a tubular steel sphere, onto which a 50mm layer of concrete was sprayed to create the road-like surface effect once the surface was painted.
Now Green Party councillor Colm Kenny is seeking any information about plans that Kildare County Council may have to harness the tourism potential associated with it.
He's asked the council if it plans to liaise with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and other national bodies to "promote and leverage the tourism potential of the monument as a visitor attraction site."
