It turns out not all dogs are a man’s best friend!
A 24-year-old man from County Wicklow who appeared in Naas District Court on Thursday, January 19, told Judge Desmond Zaidan that his local postman is not a fan of his French Mastiff dog, also known as a Dogue de Bordeaux or Bordeaux Mastiff.
Antons Lubgans, with an address in Park Moore, Blessington, was accused of speeding at 108 kilometres in an 80km zone at the N81 Blakestown Lower in Wicklow on March 5, 2021.
When Mr Lubgans was asked by the judge why he didn’t pay the fine that was sent to him in the mail, he explained that he has issues relating to receiving mail.
He also said that the situation was hampered by the unfortunate poor relationship between his local postman and his dog.
'The postman hates my dog,' he added.
However, he insisted that, despite its tough-looking appearance, his dog is friendly.
"Now I know why he keeps the dog," Judge Zaidan joked to defending solicitor Brian Larkin.
Judge Zaidan ultimately accepted that the defendant had issues with receiving mail at his address, and struck the case out.
He also recommended that Mr Lubgans put his postbox outside his home for his postman.
