A second entrance for the Liffey Linear Park in Newbridge will not be coming anytime soon.
The idea was suggested at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which was held on Wednesday, January 18.
Social Democrats councillor Chris Pender put forward a motion asking Kildare County Council to ‘explore the possibility of opening an additional entrance to the park on the R416, also known as 'Military Road' near Ryston Sports and Social Club where the footpath dead-ends in order to make the area a safer route for pedestrians.'
KCC told Cllr Pender in response that it have no plans to open an additional entrance.
"Two Toucan crossing facilities are being installed on the R416 to provide access to the Liffey Linear Walk for pedestrians.
"The additional footpath works will join up the Belin Wood Development with the Liffey Linear Park," KCC added.
Cllr Pender admitted that he was disappointed by this decision, adding that a second entrance would 'provide people a safe route to access nearby amenities.'
KCC agreed to put the road on a progress report.
